FAA News for February 2018

The next meeting of the Fluvanna Art Association will be held on Friday, February 16th from 9:30 – 12:00 at the Fluvanna County Library.

PROGRAM: “Laura Foussekis”

Laura is currently the Gallery Director of the Louisa Arts Center. During our program Laura says, “I will be talking about the gallery at the Louisa Arts Center, How we set up our programs, How to get to be considered for a show at the Arts Center, and our upcoming shows for 2018 and 2019. I will also do a critique.”

“Since 2007, I have lived in Louisa County. I have focused on my art and volunteer projects for my community and my church. I have also done some consulting work on legislative issues pertaining to property taxation. I paint, primarily in oils, and do stained glass. My paintings have been featured at a number of shows at the Louisa Arts Center, shows at the Blue Ridge Shores Community and the Ground Floor Gallery in Brooklyn New York. My works have also been included at the Silver Tie Galas for the Louisa Arts Center as well as for fundraising auctions for Spay Neuter All Pets in Louisa, St. Jude Catholic Church in Mineral, American Legion Auxiliary in Louisa and the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville.”

We look forward to her insights and information! FAA members, you may bring one piece of art to the meeting in hopes of having Laura offer you a critique. We cannot guarantee the time for every piece to be viewed.

Spring Show: This is the perfect time to start planning your entries for our 43rd annual spring show next month in March. Please see the 2018 Judged Show Application for more information. This is only available to members of the FAA so don’t forget to pay your dues, if you have not already done so.

Review of our policy about snow days since the library does not adhere to the county school schedule. If the weather is bad, a decision is made by 7:30 AM as to whether the library will be closed or delayed. They post a notification on their website. If the library will open on time then we will go ahead with our meeting. If delayed, then we will cancel our meeting. The bottom line is check your email or go the Fluvanna County Library website to see if there is any delay.

“It takes time to really see. Seeing is in itself an art. Perhaps that is what art is, the crystallization of a vision.” (Mary Jean Mailloux)

Please let me know if you have any questions.
